Learning from Nouwen in Ewing, NJ and Lancaster, PA
Henri Nouwen still speaks so strongly
because he embodied an activist's energy and a contemplative's heart. In
this day apart, we follow Henri's rhythms of exhilaration and exhaustion
and mine the gifts in each. The leader will draw from Michael Christensen
and Rebecca Laird's newly edited book by Henri Nouwen, Spiritual
Direction: Wisdom for the Long Walk of Faith, and other classics. You
may bring a favorite Nouwen excerpt (one or two paragraphs, copied for
all), to weave into contemplative readings and silences. A highlight:
imagine Henri Nouwen as your mentor in relation to an issue you bring.

Leader:
Kent Ira Groff, who treasures the insights hidden in Henri Nouwen's
vulnerabilities, is a spiritual companion, retreat leader, and writer
living in Denver, Colorado. In his new book, Writing Tides: Finding
Grace and Growth through Writing, Kent follows Nouwen as he invites
others to find creative compassion in life's cycles of affirmation,
diminishment, and rebirth.
